Aide Entreprise Reprise
British actor John Hurt first played Quentin Crisp in the 1975 adaptation of Crisp's most well known work The Naked Civil Servant.
The Naked Civil Servant
An autobiography, The Naked Civil Servant was first published in 1968. Interest in the effeminate and somewhat eccentric gay icon intensified after a short documentary was made in the writer's small apartment. Eventually a film version of the autobiography was completed. When the film of The Naked Civil Servant was released, it turned both John Hurt and Quentin Crisp into celebrities.
In the meantime, Crisp launched a question and answer stage show, would appear on any talk or radio show to air his opinions, and wrote numerous books. At the age of 73, Crisp decided to live permanently in the United States, a brave decision chronicled in the second part of his autobiography, How To Become A Virgin.
