Oradour sur Glane
Oradour sur Glane is one of seven French villages bearing the name 'Oradour'. It does not take long however to discover that the village of Oradour sur-Glane is different from the rest. For a start it is modern, no immediate evidence of a long history. It is bustling, busy in the way that people who have experienced something bad, are determined to shake it off. It is because of what happened that every year thousands of visitors flock to see for themselves.
Oradour is in the Haute-Vienne department of France, about half an hour's drive from Limoges. It is a country place where agriculture has always dominated the surrounding area. In 1944 the population was about 850 souls.
